GETTING AROUND
The S1 coastal route cannot
cope with the traffic in
summer and is best avoided.
A busy railway line runs
alongside; most trains stop
at Grosseto and Orbetello,
and buses from Grosseto
serve most towns in the area.
Vehicle and passenger ferries
depart from Piombino to
Elba every 30 minutes during
the day in summer. Bus
services from Portoferraio
cover all parts of the island.
