In-Depth Information
Niche Museums
Although the blockbuster state museums do charge admission to adults, a few niche mu-
seums don't. Learn about the history of German democracy at the Deutscher Dom , life dur-
ing the Biedermeier at the Knoblauchhaus , and Berlin's equivalent of Oskar Schindler at the
Museum Blindenwerkstatt Otto Weidt . Free art can be enjoyed at the Daimler Contempor-
ary . Military and airplane buffs will want to make the trip to the city outskirts for the Mil-
itärhistorisches Museum .
Sometimes Free
Museums offering free admission at certain times include the Akademie der Künste (3pm to
7pm Tuesday), Kunsthalle Deutsche Bank (all day Monday) and Museum für Film und
Fernsehen (4pm to 8pm Thursday); and the Bröhan Museum , Märkisches Museum and
Nikolaikirche - all first Wednesday of the month.
Free Guided Tours
Many museums and galleries include free multilingual audio guides in the admission price;
some also offer free guided tours, although these are usually in German.
Alternative Berlin Tours , New Berlin Tours and Brewer's Berlin Tours are English-lan-
guage walking tour companies that advertise 'free' guided tours, although the guides actually
depend on tips.
