Women Travellers
Berlin is remarkably safe for women to explore, even solo. Simply use the same common
sense you would at home.
Going alone to cafes and restaurants is perfectly acceptable, even at night.
It's quite normal to split dinner bills, even on dates.
In bars and nightclubs, solo women are likely to attract some attention, but if you don't want
company, most men will respect a firm 'no, thank you'. Drinks spiked with rohypnol or oth-
er drugs are a potential problem in some places - don't leave your drink unattended!
If assaulted, call the police (110). For help in dealing with the emotional and physical
trauma associated with an attack, contact the Women's Crisis Hotline ( 030-251 2828,
030-216 8888, 030-615 4243). The hotlines are, however, not staffed around the clock.
