Wannsee
Explore
Leafy Wannsee, Berlin's southwestern-most suburb, is named for the enormous Wannsee
lake, which is really just a bulge in the Havel River. In fine weather, it's a fantastic place to
leave the city bustle behind. You can cruise around the lake, walk in the forest, visit an en-
chanting island, tour a royal palace or work on your tan in the Strandbad Wannsee, a
lakeside lido with a 1200m-long sandy beach. Famous Nazi and Cold War sites are among
its more sinister attractions.

This lakeside public pool has delighted water rats for over a century. On hot days, its
1200m-long sandy beach can get very busy. Besides swimming, you can rent boats,
play volleyball, basketball or table tennis or grab a snack or drink.
The Strandbad is about 1.3km northwest of the S-Bahn station Nikolassee. Walk
north on Borussenstrasse, then turn left onto Wannseebadweg.
