Unless some mad scientist invents a magic time-travel-teleporter machine, the three vast
collections of art and objects from around the globe within the Museen Dahlem are your
best bet for exploring the world in a single afternoon.
Highlights of the Museum of Ethnology include masks and musical instruments in the
Africa exhibit, and outriggers and traditional huts in the South Seas hall. Prime works in the
Museum of Asian Art include the Japanese tearoom and a 16th-century Chinese imperial
throne made of lacquered rosewood with mother-of-pearl inlay. At the Museum of
European Cultures , exhibits range from Swedish armoires to a Venetian gondola and a gi-
ant mechanical nativity scene from Germany. Small kids can have their horizons expanded
at the touchy-feely Junior Museum.

In 1905 Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Erich Heckel and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner founded Ger-
many's first modern-artist group, called Die Brücke (The Bridge), thereby paving the way
for German expressionism and modern art in general. Schmitt-Rottluff's personal collection
forms the core of this superb presentation of expressionist art in a lovely bungalow in the
Grunewald Forest.
The gallery is about 2.5km north of U-Bahn station Oskar-Helene-Heim via Clayallee.

on the daily life and challenges faced by the Western Allies in Berlin from 1945 to 1994.
The museum is about 800m north of the U-Bahn station.
