Grunewald & Dahlem
Explore
Berlin's most upper-crust suburbs, Dahlem and Grunewald are packed with cultural and nat-
ural appeal. Set between their leafy streets and lavish villa colonies are gardens, parks,
palaces and a sprinkling of museums, most notably the Museen Dahlem with its global eth-
nological collections. After WWII, the area was part of the American sector, a legacy reflec-
ted in such institutions as the AlliiertenMuseum (Allied Museum). A respite for Berliners
and residents alike is the Grunewald forest, a vast fresh-air refuge crisscrossed by paths and
dotted with lakes extending all the way west to the Havel River.
