One of Berlin's oldest jazz clubs has diversified its programming and now also pulls in fans
of blues, rock, soul, funk and Motown to its intimate cellar space with a low ceiling and
black walls. If that gets too claustrophobic, escape to the upstairs cafe, in summer with out-
side terrace.

era (today's Staatsoper) on Unter den Linden. The original building was destroyed in WWII
and rebuilt by 1961 as a huge, modernist venue with seating for nearly 1900 people. It
boasts a repertory of around 70 operas, all sung in their original language.
