In-Depth Information
This beautifully designed restaurant made an instant splash thanks to its mellow Asian
lounge vibe and inspired menu of Indochine favourites. Solid menu choices include the
Deep Gold Beef with fresh mango strips and the Mekong's Surf & Turf with king prawn and
tenderloin. For a special kick, don't miss the Saigon mule.
FRENCH
DER HAHN IST TOT!
dinner €20; 7-11pm Tue-Sun; Eberswalder Strasse, M1)
A French children's ditty inspired the curious name, which translates as 'The rooster is
dead!' Here the deceased fowl is turned into coq au vin, the classic French country stew
that's always on the menu at this pretension-free restaurant. Every night, staff dish up three
four-course dinners, including a meat-free selection, at a truly unbeatable price.
VEGAN
LUCKY LEEK
6-11pm Wed-Sun; ; Senefelderplatz)
Josita Hartanto not only knows how to coax maximum flavour out of the vegetable king-
dom, but has a knack for combining them boldly and creatively. Even die-hard carnivores
will likely swoon over such results as creamy wasabi-pea risotto,
seitan
dumplings and as-
paragus ravioli.
MEXICAN
PAPALÓTL
€13-18; 4pm-midnight Tue-Sun; M2, Senefelderplatz)
This Tex-Mex-free zone serves up authentic contemporary Mexican fare amid an artsy vibe
that's definitely more festive than fiesta. Everything's homemade, down to the complex
moles, and prepared with quality meats and produce. Excellent tequila and mezcal selection
to boot.
GERMAN
ZUM SCHUSTERJUNGEN
€5-13; 11am-midnight; Eberswalder Strasse)
At this rustic corner pub, authentic Berlin charm is doled out with as much abandon as the
delish home cooking. Big platters of goulash, roast pork and
Sauerbraten
feed both tummy
and soul, as do the regionally brewed Berliner Schusterjunge pilsner and Märkischer Land-
mann black beer.
