The north wing and the Pergamonaltar at the
Pergamonmuseum
are closed for an extensive
facelift until 2019. The
Neue Nationalgalerie
will also remain closed for renovation until at
least 2018. New on the scene is the free
Museum in der Kulturbrauerei

swing after several high-profile openings, including the
Bikini Berlin

Unter den Linden
The grand boulevard has been turned into a giant construction zone as Berlin builds a new U-
Bahn line and the Berlin City Palace over the coming years. At least the restoration of the
Staatsoper Unter den Linden
(State Opera House) should be completed by 2015.
Berliner Stadtschloss (Berlin City Palace)
In June 2013 construction commenced on one of Europe's biggest cultural projects, the recon-
struction of the Prussian royal city palace opposite Museum Island in the historic city centre.
Upon completion, possibly in 2019, the so-called Humboldt-Forum will contain museums, a
library and university collections. For a preview, visit the
Humboldt-Box
.
Park am Gleisdreieck
Berlin is no slouch when it comes to city parks and in 2013 it added another huge swath of
open space to its green credentials with the opening of the
Park am Gleisdreieck
on a former
railway junction south of Potsdamer Platz.
Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer
A work in progress since 1998, the
central memorial site
of German division was due to be
completed in November 2014, on the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Exhibits
illustrate what the Wall looked like and how it impacted on the lives of people on both sides.
