; Innstrasse 47; mains €6-9;
10am-
midnight; ; 104, 167, Rathaus Neukölln)
It serves lunch and dinner too, but it's the breakfast that has 'slam' groupies in a headlock. If
the prospect of fluffy maple-syrup-drenched pancakes, eggs Benedict with homemade
creamy hollandaise, or big fat huevos rancheros doesn't get you out of bed, what will? The
coffee comes from local top microroastery Five Elephant.
ITALIAN
MASANIELLO
noon-midnight; Hermannplatz)
Tables are almost too small for the wagon-wheel-size certified Neapolitan pizzas tickled by
wood fire at this low-key pizzeria, whose large and flowery terrace transports you to the
Boot on a balmy summer night. A vegan fave is the Pizza Contadina with eggplant, peppers,
zucchini, mushrooms and artichokes.
MIDDLE EASTERN
CITY CHICKEN
030-624 8600; Sonnenallee 59; chicken plate €5.50;
11am-2am;
Rathaus Neukölln)
There's chicken and then there's City Chicken, an absolute cult destination when it comes to
juicy birds sent through the rotisserie for the perfect tan. Well worth ordering with the full
complement of sides - especially the wicked garlic sauce and the creamy hummus.
AMERICAN
BERLIN BURGER INTERNATIONAL
ger €4.90-7.50; noon-midnight Mon-Thu, to 1am Fri, noon-10pm Sun; ; Hermannplatz)
The guys at BBI know that size matters. At least when it comes to burgers: handmade, two-
fisted, bulging and sloppy contenders. Get 'em with a side of chilli cheese fries and you'll be
in fast-food heaven. Paper towel supplied. You'll need it.
PALEO
SAUVAGE PALEOTHEK
€4-9; 6-11pm Tue-Sun; Hermannplatz)
You'll have a 'wild' time at Berlin's first paleo restaurant, which opened in 2011 in a former
brothel and has since spawned a fancier cousin in
Prenzlauer Berg
. The original branch is
now a gastrobar where you can sample such paleo tapas as Cajun frog legs or halibut
