Being close to the Humboldt University, this compact 18th-century cemetery is the place of
perpetual slumber for a veritable roll call of famous Germans and dotted with artistic tomb-
stones. Karl Friedrich Schinkel, in fact, designed his own. Brecht, who lived next door,
chose to be buried here, allegedly to be close to his idols, the philosophers Hegel and Fichte.
A map by the entrance shows grave locations.
Former Dramatist Heiner Müller is a recent addition; fans still leave cigars for him.
There's also a monument to resistance fighters killed by the Nazis and a section reserved for
members of the nearby Berlin Academy of Arts, including the writer Anna Seghers.
