In-Depth Information
Rededicated in 1995, today's Neue Synagoge is not so much a house of worship (al-
though prayer services do take place), but a museum and place of remembrance called Cen-
trum Judaicum . In addition to temporary presentations, a permanent exhibit features archi-
tectural fragments and objects recovered from the ruins of the building before its reconstruc-
tion. They include a Torah scroll and an eternal lamp, and help tell the history of the build-
ing and the lives of the people associated with it. A multilingual audioguide (€3) also helps
bring the past to life. On guided tours (call for times) you can also see the glass-and-steel
mantle propping up the ruins of the original sanctuary in back. The dome can be climbed.
