In-Depth Information
The Legoland Discovery Centre ( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; 01806 6669 0110;
www.legolanddiscoverycentre.de/berlin ; Potsdamer Strasse 4; admission €14-18.50; 10am-7pm (last
admission 5pm); 200, Potsdamer Platz, Potsdamer Platz) is an indoor amusement park
made entirely of those little coloured plastic building blocks that many of us grew up with.
Cute but low-tech, it's best suited for kids aged three to eight. Skip the promotional intro-
ductory film and head straight to such adventure stations as Ninjago, where kids can battle
snakes and brave a laser labyrinth, or Merlin's Magic Library, where they become a wizard
apprentice and 'fly' through a magical potion room. Other 'thrills' include the 4D cinema
(with tactile special effects), a ride through the Dragon's Castle (top speed: 10km/h), and a
'torture-tickle chamber'. Grown-ups will have fun marvelling at a Berlin in miniature at
Miniland, which uses more than two million Lego bricks to recreate major landmarks.
The website has ticket deals and combination tickets with other attractions.
Weinhaus Huth & Daimler Contemporary
Looking a bit lost amid all the postmodern skyscrapers, the 1912 Weinhaus Huth ( MAP
GOOGLE MAP ; Alte Potsdamer Strasse 5; 200, Potsdamer Platz, Potsdamer Platz) was one
of the first steel-frame buildings in town and the only Potsdamer Platz structure that sur-
vived WWII intact. On the top floor is the free Daimler Contemporary ( MAP
GOOGLE MAP ; 030-2594 1420; www.sammlung.daimler.com ; 4th fl, Weinhaus Huth, Alte Pots-
damer Strasse 5; 11am-6pm; 200, Potsdamer Platz, Potsdamer Platz) , a loft-style gallery
showcasing first-rate international abstract, conceptual and minimalist art. Andy Warhol,
Jonathan Monk - you never know who will be on view. Ring the bell to be buzzed in.
Boulevard der Stars
Berlin own Walk of Fame, the Boulevard der Stars (Boulevard of the Stars; MAP
GOOGLE MAP ; www.boulevard-der-stars-berlin.de ; Potsdamer Strasse; 24hr; 200, Pots-
damer Platz, Potsdamer Platz) features dozens of German TV and film actors (including Mar-
lene Dietrich, Werner Herzog and Romy Schneider) with brass stars embedded in a red-as-
phalt 'carpet' along Potsdamer Strasse. A cute gimmick is the Pepper's Ghost Cameras,
which create a holographic image of the celebrity hovering above their brass star. Best of
all: you can step next to and take a photo with your favorite celeb.
