The Gendarmenmarkt area is Berlin at its ritziest, dappled with luxury hotels, fancy restaur-
ants and bars. The graceful square was named after the Gens d'Armes, an 18th-century
Prussian regiment of French Huguenots who settled here after being expelled from France in
1685.
Completed in 1705, the Französischer Dom (French Dome; MAP GOOGLE MAP ;
