In-Depth Information
Be certain to visit Tingsgarden, the glass-making center located in the old town,
where you can view glassblowing and glass painting. There is also a gift shop,
cafe, and restaurant. The 18th-century surroundings are well preserved and have
been declared a historical monument.
Sunbyholm Castle is located 8 miles outside Eskilstuna. Built by an illegitimate
son of a Swedish king, it has been restored to its original splendor and a restaurant
has been added. The area also has a harbor, good swimming beach, and the
1,000-year-old “strip cartoon”—the Sigurd Carving on stone—one of about 50
prehistoric monuments surrounding Eskilstuna. It illustrates some famous epis-
odes from the ancient Icelandic saga of Sigurd the Dragon Slayer.
