Train platforms are referred to in Sweden as spoors . On most trains operated
by the Scandinavian countries, drinking water is supplied at no charge. Train re-
servations are mandatory for trips of more than 90 miles on all X 2000/Linx and
overnight trains.
SJ accepts the variety of Eurail passes (see list of European rail passes in the
Appendix for prices and ordering information), Eurail Scandinavia Pass, and the
Sweden Pass. Pass prices do not include reservation fees, but a point-to-point
ticket does.
Bonuses for pass holders include:
• 50 percent discount on Tallink-Silja Line: Stockholm-Helsinki, Finland (rail pass
must be valid in Sweden and Finland), Stockholm-Turku
• Free ferry crossing on Scandlines: Helsingborg-Helsingør, Denmark (with valid
rail pass in Sweden and Denmark)
• 20 percent discount on Stena Line: Göteborg-Frederikshavn, Denmark (no dis-
count on cabin/couchette supplements)
• 50 percent discount on TT Line: Trelleborg-Travemünde, Germany
• 50 percent discount on TR-Line full-fare ferry crossing: Trelleborg-Rostock, Ger-
many
