Madrid's two main railway stations,
Chamartin
and
Atocha,
are connected by
underground trackage via Madrid's metro system and by
Apeadero Cercanias
(loc-
al) trains or any through-trains scheduled to stop at both stations. The metro stop
for Atocha Station is marked
ATOCHA RENFE.
Apeadero Cercanias stations also in-
clude
Nuevos Ministerios
in the government buildings area and
Recoletos
at the
main post office. Rail passes are accepted on Apeadero Cercanias trains, but not
on Madrid's metro.
ChamartinStation,
San Agustin de Foxa Street, is Madrid's international station
connecting with most European capitals, as well as the north, northeast, and south
of Spain. The station is near the Chamartin metro stop, and buses Nos. 5 and 80
connect from the city and this railway station. High-speed AVE trains shuttle pas-
sengers quickly to and from
Seville
(about 2 hours and 15 minutes), with stops
at
Cordoba
and
Ciudad Real.
Other fast trains depart to and arrive from various
southern and southeastern Spanish destinations and from Portugal. There are 21
tracks.

Opposite track Nos. 17 and 18. The sign reads

Nominal reservation fee. Be certain to ask for accommodations near one of the
rail stations or close to public transportation. The check-in counter for Hotel
Chamartin is near the luggage locker area.

CONSIGNA AUTOMATICA.
