The tourist information offices can provide money exchange and hotel informa-
tion and bookings. They also sell tickets for Barcelona Walking Tours, Bus Turístic,
the theater, and other entertainment; they sell the Barcelona Card and city trans-
port and phone cards; and they provide Internet service for a fee. In the summer,
tourism officials in red shirts, known as the “Red Jackets,” patrol the Las Ramblas
and Barri Gótic areas, providing maps and information.
Getting Around in Barcelona
Transportation in and around Barcelona is plentiful and easy to use ( www.tmb.net ) .
The Barcelona Metro has six lines covering more than 86 kilometers and includes
123 stations. Trains run 0500 to 0000 Monday through Thursday, 0500 to 0200 Fri-
day and Saturday, and 0500 to 0000 Sunday. Bus services generally run 0500 to
2200, although there is a special Nitbus (night bus) that runs 1000 to 0400. The
price for a single bus or metro ticket is €2.15. A good deal is the 10-trip package
for €10.30, which can be used on the bus and the metro, and it's transferable. Un-
limited transfers can be made within 1 hour and 15 minutes. A two-day Travel Card
for both metro and bus is €14.00; three-day, €20.00; four-day, €25.50; and five-day,
€30.50.
The Barcelona Card is a real bargain. It provides free public transport, dis-
counts at the city's major attractions, including museums, shops, and several res-
taurants, and discounts on the Aerobus to/from the airport, the Montjuic funicular
railway and cable car, Tombbus and Tibibús, and more. Purchase at tourist inform-
ation offices, airport Terminals A and B, and at the Sants rail station:
