To reach Palácio Foz, take a taxi or bus No. 9, 46, or 39 to Praça dos Res-
tauradores. It is opposite the post office, near Rossio Station. Palácio Foz (Foz
Palace) has three main doors. Enter the one on the left marked TURISMO.
Hotel reservations can be made at the rail stations' combined train and tourist
information offices.
Getting Around in Lisbon
Electric, cable car-like trams provide inexpensive and enjoyable transport to many
parts of the city. Historic Belém, for instance, can be reached via Tram 15—an al-
ternative to taking the train from Cais do Sodré Station.
Of super value is the Lisboa Card, which provides unlimited travel on the
public transportation system (CARRIS), including buses, trams, and the recently
remodeled metro (underground) system; free entry to 80 museums, monuments,
and other attractions that normally charge admission; and discounts at certain
shops. It is truly your “password” to the city.
The Lisboa Card is available at the Central Office, at Palácio Foz; at Jerónimos
Monastery, Praça do Imperio; at the National Museum of Ancient Art, Rua das
Janelas Verdes; Lisbon Airport, and at various CARRIS offices.

Other value cards also may be purchased at the tourist information offices, in-
cluding:
• The “Lisboa Restaurant Card,” which offers no less than 10 percent discount on
your bill at more than 40 restaurants within a 72-hour validity period. €6.15
single, €8.10 double (2 persons), €10.75 family (2 adults and 2 children age 14
and younger).
• The “Lisboa Shopping Card,” which provides 5 to 20 percent discount at more
than 200 shops. Valid for 24 hours, €3.70; 72 hours, €5.80.
Attractions/Tours
Tourist offices or your hotel can arrange for a sightseeing tour of Lisbon. Or ask the
tourist office for the guide booklet Lisboa Step by Step , purchase a Lisboa Card,
and conduct your own tour. Highlights of any tour will include the 16th-century Jer-
ónimos Monastery and the Tower of Belém in the Belém district. Lisbon's more
modern side can be seen by visiting the Discoveries Monument (Centro Cultur-
