Day Excursions from Warsaw
First up is a trip to the second largest city in Poland, Kraków, to visit the Old Town,
and be reminded of (relatively) recent history at Auschwitz. Next, travel to Gdańsk,
where you can visit the beaches that much of northern Europe summers on, and
see where the first shots of World War II were fired. The third round-trip takes you
to Lublin, the gateway to the East, and a university town known for its nightlife.
Other options abound. If you plan to spend longer in Poland, consider white-wa-
ter rafting in the Dunajec River Gorge (south of Kraków), visiting the amazing Bi-
ałowieza Forest (on the Belarusian border), or hiking in the Tatra Mountains (on
the Slovakian border).
