Visitors desiring personal-guide services can contact Guideservice or Tel: 22 42 70
20 for reservations and tariffs. Students, taxi drivers, and couriers are not permit-
ted to arrange paid guided tours in Oslo and for the museums.
A variety of tours in and around the city is available. For details call at the tourist
information office or consult your hotel. You may book the standard sightseeing
bus tours, which normally take three hours to complete, or you may want to opt
for one of the more specialized tours combining bus and boat transportation. You
will find them listed in What's On in Oslo and The Official Guide for Oslo and Sur-
rounding Area.
With so much good weather on hand, it is only natural that the majority of Oslo's
sightseeing services concentrate their schedules into the summer months. In the
period beginning with April and ending with October, a myriad of sightseeing op-
portunities are available to visitors. Fjord cruises from 50 minutes' duration to sev-
eral hours are available. Likewise, there are land-and-water combinations to select
from that include (among other attractions) a visit to the Kon-Tiki Raft Museum, a
cruise on the Oslofjord, and a view from the top of the famous Holmenkollen ski
jump.
The usual types of city bus tours are also available, along with a wide selection
of things to be seen. There's an old adage that when the weather is nice, you will
never find anyone home in Oslo. That is true. Chances are, you will find that many
of the passengers on your tour bus or boat are townspeople enjoying the view
along with you.
Information describing Bygdoy and many other attractions in Oslo is available
at the tourist information office, at the Oslo Sentral Station, or from the Tourist In-
formation Centre.
Visit Oslo's famous VigelandPark while you are in town. Among the 193 granite
and bronze statues by sculptor Gustav Vigeland, you will be able to examine The
Monolith , the world's largest granite sculpture.
