Notes: The Tourist Information Centre is located opposite Oslo's City Hall; entrance
is on Roald Amundsen Street.
The attitude of the personnel at the Information Centre is, “If we can't tell you what
you need to know, we can tell you who can and where to go to get it.” The Inform-
ation Centre provides details on Oslo and its surrounding regions plus selected
destinations throughout Norway; houses a nice cafe, interesting gallery, gift shop,
and newspaper kiosk; and neighbors a restaurant serving “Norway's best food in a
contemporary setting at an attractive price.”
Hotel reservations can be made in the tourist information office across from
City Hall or in the one next door to the money exchange office in Oslo Sentral
Station. This service is operated by Oslo Promotion. It will make reservations for
you in hotels, pensions, and private homes (NOK 20 fee per booking). Oslo Pro-
motion has an exceptional track record. Few, if any, are ever turned away
though the entire town is “fully booked.” Oslo is one of the few European cities
where you can arrive without an advance reservation and still be reasonably
certain of lodgings that night.
