Arriving by Air
Luxembourg International Airport ( Tel: 352 24640; www.luxairport.lu ) is about 4
miles (6 kilometers) from the city center. Luxembourg, because of its central
European location and convenient rail connections, attracts an increasing number
of visitors from North America.
Airport-City Links: Bus service from the airport terminates at the Luxembourg
rail station. Municipal buses (Route 16) depart every 10 minutes Monday through
Friday, every 15 minutes on Saturday, and every half-hour on Sunday from a
platform about 50 feet outside the air terminal. Journey time, 25 minutes; you can
check stops, timetables, fares, and extra transport like the City Night Bus or the
City Shopping Bus at the website: www.autobus.lu . At present there is no under-
ground or train service link, but there are very interesting plans proposed to link
the airport to the railway station via a direct connection.
Taxis: about €30 (supplements for nights, Sunday, and extra luggage). Journey
time to city center: 15 to 20 minutes. All taxis are equipped with meters. No tips
are expected. You must use designated pick-up points.
Tourist information at the airport: Tel: 2464 0. Hours: 0400-2400 daily (except
on holidays).
Arriving by Train
The city of Luxembourg is served by a single railway station located conveniently
in the city center. Connections can be made directly to Belgium, France, Germany,
Italy, the Netherlands, and Switzerland from the station. The downtown air terminal
and the city bus terminal are clustered conveniently about the railway station, which,
like the airport, has been modernized to handle an increasing number of passen-
gers.
