When the lake beckons, there is a choice of eight round-trips by boat, each of-
fering an opportunity for a special vista. If the mountains attract you, ascent is pos-
sible by cableways and funiculars in many different directions. Two funiculars, one
at each end of Lugano, carry you swiftly up 3,000 feet to breathtaking views of
either Monte Bre or Monte San Salvatore.
The list of things to do and see doesn't stop there. Take a motor coach to either
Sonvico or Tesserete, typical Swiss mountain villages. Even a journey to the
world-renowned resort of St. Moritz is possible. In fact, anything's possible—just
ask at the Lugano tourist information office.
For a relaxing day on the lake, select the cruise to the Swiss Miniature Village,
a unique exhibition of towns, hamlets, castles, mountains, and railways—all on a
scale of 1:25. The model railway is centrally controlled and has a length of 186
miles! Realize that this is an all-day outing, but it has wooed millions of other visit-
ors—why not you? Hours: 0900-1800 daily mid-March-October. Tel: (091) 640 10
60; www.swissminiatur.ch .
The tourist information office will gladly mark out a walking tour of the city and its
interesting areas, or opt for a free guided walking tour every Monday morning from
April until October.
For lunch in Lugano, you can make it a stand-up affair by selecting from a
vendor's cart at lakeside or perhaps aboard a lake steamer. For an enjoyable sit-
down meal, we recommend these quality restaurants in the center of Lugano: Al
Portone, Cantinone, Casino Kursaal, Commercianti, La Tinera, Parco Saroli,
Olimpia,Orologio,RestaurantScala, and Trani. In Paradiso we can recommend
Osteria Calprino.
