Tourists are targets for ploys and pranks throughout the world. Athens is no ex-
ception. A waiter may suggest that you consume bottled water with your meal.
After all, you may have been warned not to drink the regular water. Bottled water is
a good idea, but insist that the waiter open the bottle at your table. Otherwise, you
might receive an opened bottle of water that was just recently filled from the water
tap in the kitchen. Or order a bottle of carbonated water. That's hard to bootleg!
Day Excursions
Riding a narrow-gauge train through areas steeped in the history of Western civil-
ization is sufficiently stimulating to make the traveler overlook the lack of air-con-
ditioning, posh dining cars, and other amenities. Our day excursion to Argos, the
