Arriving by Air
AthensInternationalAirport—EleftheriosVenizelos. Athens International Airport
( Airport call center: +30 210 353 0000; www.aia.gr ) is located 33 kilometers south-
east of Athens. The new airport met the goal of enhancing tourism to Athens in pre-
paration for the Olympics in 2004.
Airport-City Links: Airport Express Bus Line X95 connects the airport with Syn-
tagma Square (Athens city center). Buses run every 20 minutes 0710 to 2110;
less frequent service throughout the night. Fare €5.00. A suburban rail link con-
nects the airport with downtown Athens' Larissa Station every hour from 0630 to
2330; journey time, 30 minutes.
Metro Line 3 will take you from the airport to Athens Syntagma Square or Mona-
stiraki Stations in about 36 minutes. At least two departures per hour. Fare: €8.
Taxi queues are next to Door 3 of the Arrivals Level. Fares average about €35
to Syntagma Square; journey time, 30-40 minutes.
Money exchange, ATMs, and tourist information are available in the Arrivals
area, Level 0, of the main terminal.
If you are departing Athens by air, the airport's tax-free shopping area offers a
wide selection of Greek apparel, liquors, and delicacies. Unlike many tax-free
shopping facilities, the one in Athens's airport has some reasonable values, but
you can't bargain with the salespeople—leave that for shopping in the city.
Arriving by Train
Arrivals from eastern European countries and points in northern Greece terminate
in Athens's Larissa Station, a standard-gauge facility. With the closure of the Pelo-
