The area surrounding it is probably the most interesting section within the walled
city. Unfortunately, Dürer's most famous work, The Four Apostles , now rests in
Munich, but a number of his paintings are exhibited along with a multilingual
film presentation on his life and works. Hours: Tuesday-Friday: 1000-1700, (un-
til 2000 Thursday), Saturday--Sunday 1000--1800; also open Monday in summer.
The New Museum features exhibits showing free form, applied arts, and modern
design. Admission is €5.00 for adults, €4.00 children under 15.
If you have any doubt about that first day excursion by train originating in Nurem-
berg, check in at the Verkehrsmuseum (Transportation Museum), 3 blocks to
the right of the train station as you face it. Hours: 0900-1700 Tuesday- Friday,
1000-1800 Saturday and Sunday. Admission: €5.00. There you will find the Adler
(Eagle), the first German locomotive, complete with the two beer barrels mounted
on its tender.
