In-Depth Information
Munich has several suburban stations, but most international trains stop only at the
Hauptbahnhof.
Munich's railway station—the Hauptbahnhof is actually a city within a city. In
addition to the regular rail station services, all you need do is descend one level on
any one of the station's many escalators to discover a veritable city of shops, ran-
ging from bakeries, bier (beer) stubes , and fruit stands to supermarkets, as well as
the subway entrances to many of Munich's department stores. Most shops in the
immediate Hauptbahnhof area are open late during the week as well as on week-
ends and holidays.
Money exchange (Geldwechsel-Exchange-Cambio): Located in the far left
corner (as you exit) of the main station hall next to the main entrance. Hours:
0700-2200 daily. This facility offers a service not usually found in other ex-
changes. It will accept foreign coins (except coins from eastern Europe). Most
exchanges will accept only notes.
An ATM is on the left-hand side as you face the bank. A walk-up currency ex-
change office is to the right when exiting the trains, by Track 11 at the street
exit. Hours: 0730-1900 daily. There is also an ATM just before the Bayer-
strasse exit.
The EurAide office is in Room 3 next to Track 11. It is open primarily during
the summer months: 0730 to 1630 daily in May; 0730 to 1800 daily from June 1
to the end of September.
Tourist information/hotel reservations may be made in the tourist information
office. To reach it, exit through the Bahnhof Platz exit and turn right. It is the
second office on the right, next to the ABR Reisebüro. It is within the station
complex but can only be reached from the outside. A nominal charge is made
for reservations. Hours: 0900-2000 Monday- Saturday, 1000-1800 Sunday; E-
mail: tourismus@muenchen.de.
InfoPool-Young People's Guide lists youth accommodations and activities.

come) at 5 Senefelderstrasse. Tel: (089) 59 90 88 11; Fax: (089) 59 90 88 77;

be made in the Reisezentrum (Travel Center), located in the center of the sta-
tion in front of Tracks 21 and 22. Hours: 0700-2100 Monday-Friday, 0700-
