Airport-City Links: Airport-Express busline 39 between the airport (Terminal 2)
and Ohlsdorf U-Bahn station where frequent train service into Hamburg is avail-
able. Arrivals/departures every 10 minutes. If you are burdened with baggage, use
the bus, Route S1; departures every 20 minutes, 0444 to 2344, for Hamburg's
Hauptbahnhof (main rail station). Journey time: 25 to 30 minutes. Fare: €2.85.
From city center to airport, service 0440 to 2020 every 15 minutes. Taxi stands in
front of Terminals 1 and 4 ( Tel: [040] 66 66 66, [040] 21 12 11, [040] 22 11 22);
follow the pictographs. Average taxi fare to the city center, €20.

Arriving by Train
The Hamburg Hauptbahnhof (main rail station) appears as though it was con-
structed to handle the dirigible Hindenburg . Its immensity is impressive. There are
14 Gleise (tracks). Gleise 1 to 4 serve the S-Bahn, the suburban rail service; Gleise
5 to 14 are for regular train service. Most InterCity Express (ICE) trains glide in and
out of the Hauptbahnhof on Gleise 13 and 14.
For a full-service restaurant, visit the InterCity Restaurant, accessible by elevat-
or, on the station's second-floor front. The Gourmet Station on the main floor fea-
tures national and international dishes. It's informal.
• Baggage storage carts are scarce. The baggage room is the best source for a
cart or a porter.
• Money exchange hours: 0800-2200 daily.
• Post office hours: 0800-1800 Monday-Friday and 0800-1230 Saturday.
• International telephones are on the second floor of the post office.
• Train information is in the Reisezentrum (Travel Center) and is open 24 hours.
• Rail passes can be validated at window 20 or any window marked AUSLAND. In-
formation windows are 21 to 24. If the attendant does not speak English, you
will be referred to one who does.
