From July 17 until August 2, 1945, Cecilienhof played host to the Potsdam Con-
ference, the third and final meeting of Churchill, Stalin, and Truman. One of the
conference aims was the unity of Germany, though what followed was actually its
division. Harry Truman returned from the conference stating that he “liked old Joe.”
But just like the time when Harry met Sally, things didn't quite work out the way
they wanted them to.
