In-Depth Information
Centrally located in the western sector of Berlin. The majority of the city's hotels,
pensions, hostels, restaurants, shopping centers, and entertainment is also in this
area.
Baggage storage: Berlin Zoo is not a baggage-cart station, since ramps to the
train level are nonexistent and elevators normally are not available for public
use. Porters are available by prearrangement, but the best insurance for a no-
hassle visit to Germany's capital is to observe the golden rule of rail travelers:
Take one medium-size suitcase or two small ones—nothing else.
Money exchange: Available at the Reisebank inside the station, in the arrival
hall. Hours: 0600-2000 Monday-Saturday and 0800-1900 Sunday. An ATM is
available outside the bank.
Train information, reservations, and rail pass validation: As you descend
from the trains into the main hall of the Berlin Zoo Station, there's a train inform-
ation office in the Reisezentrum (Travel Center) to the far left. Hours:
0600-2200 daily. A rail schedule machine allows you to look up train schedules
and receive a printout. Facing the Reisezentrum, you'll find lockers on the left-
hand side. Train departure and arrival information is posted on boards above
the stairway.
A EurAide office is open daily during summer; closed on Sunday and holidays
during the remainder of the year. This office (like the one in Munich) is designed
specifically to assist English-speaking travelers.
Berlin Ostbahnhof
Deutsche Bahn AG (DB), or GermanRail, service counter is located in the center of
the main hall. The personnel can give schedule information 24 hours a day, seven
days a week, but don't count on their speaking English.
• For detailed information and to make reservations, go to the Reisezentrum
(Travel Center), located on the street level in the main hall next to McDonald's.
Hours: 0630-2200 daily. Lockers are to the right of the Reisezentrum as you
face it.
Money exchange: Facilities can be found on the street level near the coffee
shop. Hours: 0700-1200 Monday-Friday, 0800-1200 and 1230-1600 Saturday,
Sunday, and holidays. There's also an ATM in front of the travel center.
