Paris's RER Line C runs between Orly Airport and Versailles. Suggested stations
are Austerlitz, Orsay, Pont St. Michel, or Invalides, the railway station close to the
Hotel des Invalides, which was founded by Louis XIV to serve as a military hospital
and home for veterans. Gare Invalides can be reached via Métro line 8 or 13. Get
off at the “Invalides” Métro stop.
Trains for Versailles also run from Montparnasse Station, but the station in Ver-
sailles to which this line connects is a considerable distance from the palace.
Trains running from Gare Invalides, however, take you to within easy walking dis-
tance. Trains on RER Line C from Gare d'Austerlitz in Paris terminate in Versailles.
Therefore, stay on the train until it reaches the end of the line. The main function of
this station appears to be assisting visitors coming to Versailles to see the palace.
Bilingual signs and voice announcements will assist you.
Hours: April-October: 0900-1830; November-March 0900-1730, closed
Monday.
