Acquaint yourself with the Paris RER (Regional Express Railway), the high-
speed, limited-stop rail service that runs under —that's right, under —the regular
Paris Métro. If you need to get somewhere in a hurry, the RER's the way to go. For
example, we have ridden from Gare de Lyon to the Arc de Triomphe (the Étoile)
in less than 10 minutes. Call 08 36 68 41 41 for information. The RER consists of
five lines. RER color-coded lines appear on maps as follows: Line A = Red, Line B
= Blue, Line C = Yellow, Line D = Green, and Line E = Purple. Line A goes west
to east from St. Germain-en Laye, La Défense, the Étoile, Auber, Châtelet, Gare
de Lyon, and the Marne Valley. Line B goes north to south from Roissy-Charles de
Gaulle Airport to Gare du Nord, Châtelet, Pont St. Michel, Luxembourg, and the
Chevreuse Valley. Line C runs from Versailles and follows the Seine through Paris
to Orly Airport. Line D runs from Orry-la-Ville Coye through central Paris then splits
at the Villeneuve-St-Georges to Meluri or around to Malesherbes. Line E runs from
central Paris at Hausann Saint-Lazare east to Chelles-Gournay and southeast to
Tournan.
Note: Eurail passes are not accepted on RER lines within the Paris region.
