In-Depth Information
To ride the TéléphériquedelaBastille, wend your way to the banks of the Isere
River and then to the Jardin de Ville (city garden). From practically any point on the
riverfront, you can see the “bubbles” of the cableway flying up and down the hillside
in groups of three. A photographic hint: Ride the rear “bubble” up and the front one
down for better views of Grenoble and its environs. Visit www.bastillegrenoble.fr ,
round-trip: €7.50.
The terminal at the top of Guy Pape Park provides a spectacular view of the
city and its surrounding countryside. Dominating the heights is the Bastille, a 19th-
century fortress housing a military museum and a restaurant featuring traditional,
regional cuisine. On a suitable day, you may opt to descend on foot through Guy
Pape Park to the Jardin des Dauphins (Dauphins' garden) on the banks of the
Isere. Contact the tourist office for bicycle-rental information, then search for and
explore the gardens, the fountains, or the famous “grey gold” (concrete) buildings
of Grenoble.
