Arriving by Train
Most of the TGV Duplex (double-decker) trains from Paris to Lyon terminate at
Part-Dieu, but a few continue on to terminate at Perrache.
The facilities provided by Gare de Perrache have been expanded by the ul-
tramodern annex appended to the front of the current station building. This annex
houses a bus terminal, the terminal for the city's Metro system, and a bevy of of-
fices, shops, snack bars, and restaurants. The terminal for the airport bus and local
taxi services is also located in the annex.
Access to the annex is gained by escalators immediately in front of the station's
main doors. Pedestrian traffic, moving from the station through the annex and
into the city, uses another escalator system to exit into Lyon's Place Carnot. The
square, with its statues, fountains, and waterfalls, is one of the city's showplaces.
Gare de Perrache, together with its annex, is a large and sprawling complex. Ac-
cess to train platforms is through two underground passageways—Sortie Nord and
Sortie Sud (north and south exits)—and escalators that descend from the ticket
office and the waiting-room areas. Use of either passageway will take you to plat-
form No. 1 and, in turn, to exits leading to the street side of the station. Fortunately,
there's an abundance of pictographs throughout the station.
If you have baggage, be prepared to carry it. Baggage carts for passenger use
are not available, probably due to the platform stairways. The escalators serve only
the tracks reserved for express-train service.
Train-departure signs are displayed in the underground passageways at the bot-
tom of the platform stairways. The north passageway, however, will not list a south-
bound departure, nor the south a northbound one, unless it is a train running
through Lyon Perrache and not originating there. All train departures are displayed
over the ticket windows in the main station hall.
Money exchange: Available at the Bureau de Change in the Perrache Station.
Hours: 0630-2130 daily. ATMs are also available. Starting at the train-information
area, follow the pictographs and proceed by either escalator or elevator to the sta-
tion's TGV departure lounge on the second level.
Train information: The office is located within the main building of the Perrache
Station. Use the main entrance, turn right once you have entered the hall, and
proceed through an archway to the train information office. Hours: 0600-2000
Monday-Saturday, 0900-1830 Sunday/holidays.
