In-Depth Information
Turku has three rail stations. Arriving from Helsinki, your train will make a brief
stop at the Kupittaa suburban station before arriving in the city's main station. Do
not detrain at Kupittaa. If you arrive in Turku on a day excursion from Helsinki and
your train is scheduled to terminate at the ferry port (the third stop), rather than
getting off at the main station (second stop), stay aboard the train and ride to the
end of the line. There you can, time permitting, visit the nearby Great Castle of
Turku. Farther along the river Aura, by the Martinsilta Bridge, is the retired sailing
ship Suomen Joutsen (the “Swan of Finland”), the best-known tourist attraction in
Turku. If you prefer a taxi, the fare is approximately €8 to €10; the walk from the
port to the station should take about 20 to 30 minutes, and there's a lot to see en
route. Bus service is also available. Bus No. 1 plies between the town's market-
place and the port. The bus fare is €2.50.
