Day Excursions
When you have finally broken the fine Finnish spell Helsinki casts over its visitors,
you will want to venture forth into the Finnish countryside. We have selected four
such adventures for your pleasure. They are Hanko, Lahti, Tampere, and Turku.
Hanko, Finland's southernmost city, is a very popular summer resort with miles of
wide beaches, good fishing, sailing, and all types of amusements. Lahti is about 65
miles north of Helsinki and provides an opportunity to ride trains between Helsinki
and St. Petersburg. Also north of Helsinki lies Tampere, Finland's third-largest city.
Both industrial and recreational, Tampere has much to offer visitors year-round.
Turku, Finland's gateway to the west, was its former capital and an important cul-
tural center before Helsinki was founded. Wherever you go, the friendly Finns will
make you feel right at home. Enjoy Finland as the Finns do.
