Notes: When you arrive in the Odense railway station, look for the train-information
booth on the second floor. There you can obtain train information and a map of
Odense showing how to get to the Turist Bureau at the Rådhuset (Town Hall). In-

Hans Christian Andersen, Denmark's famous teller of fairy tales, was born in a tiny
yellow house in Odense on April 2, 1805. One hundred years later, the city bought
the house and turned it into a museum. Tourists of all ages still flock to this magic
point to see what his early life was like.
Many of Andersen's stories were set in or near Odense. Most of the locations
can be seen today. The small, half-timbered house where he was born, now the
nucleus of the Hans Christian Andersen Museum, is set in a cluster of other
small houses from the same period. A visit there is like stepping back into the 19th
century.
The Hans Christian Andersen house is near the tourist office, about a 10-minute
