Day Excursions from Prague
From Prague, head to Brno to see churches and castles, as well as a world-
renowned piece of modern architecture, all in an important university city. More
interested in the history of beer? Pilsen should be high on your list, with several
brewery tours (and great samples) available. For impressive churches and an in-
teresting display of skeletons, be sure to make the quick trip to Kutná Hora.
You have other options if you plan to spend longer in the Czech Republic. Other
cities to consider include Ostrava, known for its coal mining and steel works;
Olomouc, a university town with an impressive collection of architecture; and
Carlsbad, a large and historic spa. For outdoors sightseeing and activities, north-
east of Prague is the “Bohemian Paradise” region, with its dramatic sandstone
formations, old, crumbling castles, and many opportunities for outdoor recreation.
