Self-Study Exercises
(If you desire to keep a record of your efforts, please show a couple of logical steps
leading to the answers.)
Simulated Qubit Registers
1. Provide a timing diagram for the Fig. 6.2 First Pulse Selector given in this
chapter.
2. Provide a timing diagram for the Fig. 6.2 Load 1, 2, 3, 4 signals as in this chapter,
given a single pulse input, and assuming a delay of 10 ms.
Encoding
3. Using the encoding of Fig. 6.3 , calculate priorities for
the following
combinations:
(a) Danger, Intense (ANS. 101)
(b) Danger, Emotion (ANS. 110)
(c) Danger, Emotion, Intense (ANS. 111)
(d) Emotion, Intense (ANS. 011)
(e) Which combination has the highest priority? (ANS. c)
Toggle Register Codes
4. For the circuit of Fig. 6.4 explain what the following codes accomplish:
(a) 01
0010
...
(b) 10
...
0101
1001
5. For Fig. 6.4 , is there a problem with the code 00
(c) 10
...
1100? Note that Field 2 is
both 1s. Explain! (HINT: The output of toggle 2 is used to control the input of
toggle 2. This sort of operation is logically irreversible, since toggle 2 resets to
zero; it can never return to one without better code. Also, if the fm signal is not
removed in a timely way there will be extra energy loss as the bus propagates a
true level.)
