Figure 8.23 gives the five heterocyclic nitrogen bases which occur in the nucleic
acids. The two purines, adenine and guanine, are found in both DNA and RNA.
Of the three pyrimidines, cytosine occurs in both DNA and RNA. Thymine is
found only in DNA and uracil is only in RNA.
