we increasingly have to look with these very same criteria at the
media. How are the media doing in terms of transparency, verifica-
tion, accountability and disclosure when they are involved in informa-
tional governance processes (also on the environment)? The new media
were initially celebrated for their contribution to information diversity,
access, transparency and disclosure, especially vis- a-vis the old media.
Whether that holds - especially under conditions of a further integra-
tion of old and new media - is one of the key critical questions for
future media research, also with respect to environmental governance.
