B UDA CASTLE AND THE ROYAL PALACE may have the beneit of their
location on top of Castle Hill, but the city's deining sight remains its splen-
did Parliament building. The area around Parliament is redolent with history
and power, with large squares, wide avenues and Secession
architecture - remnants of the once powerful Austro-
Hungarian Empire. The area is home to several of the
city's most important buildings, including St Stephen's
Basilica and the outstanding State Opera House. It
also has some of Budapest's inest restaurants, as
well as its most exclusive shops and residences.
