Lutheran Church
This striking church is
characterized by its utter sim-
plicity, in keeping with the
design of most Protestant
churches throughout Central
Europe. Built between 1797 and
1808, it is not without charm,
though its very ordinariness is
what makes it stand out. Superb
acoustics make it a popular
venue for classical and organ
concerts.

Franciscan Church
Built originally in the 13th
century, the Franciscan Church -
like many churches in
Budapest - was used as
a mosque during the
Turkish occupation in
the 16th and 17th
centuries. It was
rebuilt by the
Franciscan order
between 1727 and
1743, and their emblem
remains visible today
in the main portal.
Numerous sculptures of
Franciscan saints also decorate
the church's façade.

Capuchin Church
Just a short walk along
Fő utca from St Anne's
Church lies the
charming Capuchin
Church, a 19th-
century replica of an
earlier building. The
irst church on the
site was founded in
the 14th century, but was
converted into a mosque
during the Turkish
occupation and almost entirely
destroyed in 1686. Of the few
original features to remain is the
doorway on the southern façade.

Serbian Church

Built by Serbian settlers in
1698, this Baroque church
replaced an earlier one on the
same site. The church's interior is
arranged according to the Greek
Orthodox tradition, as the Serbs
follow the Orthodox liturgy. The
iconostasis that surrounds the
choir gallery and divides it from
the sanctuary dates from 1850.
It was carved by Serb sculptor
Mihai Janic.
