In-Depth Information
Hungarian National Gallery
Nowhere in Budapest is there more treasure than at the Hungarian National
Gallery, housed in a building which is itself very much part of the city's heri-
tage. Established in 1975, when a large section of the Royal Palace was given
over to it, the Gallery displays art from medieval times to the present day and
comprises six permanent exhibitions which present the cream of Hungarian
creative arts. The museum is especially strong in its portrayal of the Secession,
the 19th-century movement that pushed boundaries and fused genres (see p23) .
