ACTIVITY 12.3 MANAGING WINDOWS AZURE
APPLICATIONS WITH POWERSHELL
his activity demonstrates how to use PowerShell to carry out management tasks such as
creating an SQL Database server and set a irewall rule. In this activity, create an SQL
Database server by following the steps below.
TASK 1: CREATE SQL DATABASE SERVER ON WINDOWS AZURE
1. To open Windows Azure PowerShell, connect to your virtual machine hosted
by Windows Azure. Press the Windows Icon key and click the Windows Azure
PowerShell icon on the tile as shown in Figure 12.16.
2. First, you need to download the .publishSettings ile by running the following com-
mand in PowerShell:
Get-AzurePublishSettingsFile
3. You will be prompted to log on to your Windows Azure account. Once you have
logged in, a web page is opened to provide the instruction on the usage of the .pub-
lishSettings ile as shown in Figure 12.17.
4. You will be prompted to save the .publishSettings ile. Once the ile is saved, click the
View Downloads button to ind where the ile is downloaded (Figure 12.18). Your
.publishSettings ile name may be diferent from the one shown here.
