database Class_Registration. We will discuss how to develop a data source in Activity 9.1, where
we will also create the Class Schedule Management form.
9.3.2 Report Development
For the development of reports, we can use the powerful cloud-based reporting service Microsoft
Windows Azure SQL Reporting, which is built on SQL Server Reporting Services technologies.
Azure SQL Reporting provides tools for creating, managing, and displaying reports. It also allows
qualiied developers to access the data source. With the tools provided by SQL Reporting, devel-
opers are able to perform the authoring and publishing of reports.
With the cloud-based SQL Reporting service, application developers are able to rapidly create
highly scalable reports. Windows Azure SQL Reporting supports various data sources and works
within the Microsoft Visual Studio.NET environment. hrough a set of application programming
interfaces (APIs), these reports can also be embedded in other database applications. Visual Studio
provides the Report Viewer control, which can be used to embed a report in a database application
such as a web form.
hrough the cloud, the reports are widely available to front-end users and application develop-
ers. he reports are hosted on a report server with a fully qualiied URL. he users can view the
reports through a browser or through the SQL Reporting portal.
In the Windows Azure Management Portal, you can ind the SQL Reporting Management
portal as shown in Figure 9.5.
In the SQL Reporting Management portal, you can ind the report server information includ-
ing the fully qualiied server URL, the server administrator's URL, the region in which the server
was created, and the percentage of space used by the reporting service. he portal also includes the
