Mountains. The climate ranges from tropical in the Low veld to temperate in the
mountains, with the rainfall pattern typical for the region. The different ecological zones
and corresponding rainfall figures are shown in Table 11.1.
The population is about 950,000 according to the 1997 census. The capital city is
Mbabane, located in the High veld of the country and has an area of 8035 ha, with a
