CLASSIFICATION OF RHIZOSPHERES
Although relatively little is yet known about rhizosphere processes, it is likely that
different types of Thizosphere will be identified when more plant species are considered.
For example, in the rhizosphere of six different herbaceous plants in temperate-climate
soils grown in two different German soils, enzymatic activities, sugar and amino-acid
contents and -evolution differed significantly, indicating clear differences in the
rhizosphere environment and in function (Bachman and Kinzel, 1992). Rhizosphere
characteristics also differed between soil types (Figure IV.37).
