WHERE TO DINE
Plimoth Plantation (p. 280) has a cafeteria and a picnic area, and occasionally sched-
ules theme dinners. Should you happen to reach the “seafood again?” stage (it hap-
pens), a good destination downtown is Sam Diego's, 15 Main St. ( & 508/747-0048;
www.samdiegos.com), a cheerful Tex-Mex restaurant and bar in a renovated firehouse.
It serves tasty renditions of exactly what you'd expect and offers a kids' menu and sea-
sonal outdoor seating. Hours are 11:30am to midnight daily.
Lobster Hut SEAFOOD A busy self-service restaurant with a great view, the
Lobster Hut is popular with both sightseers and, despite its touristy location, hungry
locals. Order and pick up at the counter, then head to an indoor table or out onto the
large deck that overlooks the action on the bay. This isn't an elegant place, but the food
is ultra-fresh and expertly prepared. To start, try clam chowder or lobster bisque. The
seafood rolls (hot dog buns with your choice of filling) are excellent. The many fried
seafood options include clams, scallops, shrimp, and haddock. You can also opt for
broiled fish and shellfish, burgers, chicken tenders—or lobster, of course. Beer and
wine are served, but only with meals.
25 Town Wharf. & 508/746-2270. Reservations not accepted. Lunch specials (available Mon-Fri until 4pm) $8-$11;
main courses $6-$19; sandwiches $3-$11 (most under $8); clams and lobster priced daily. MC, V. Summer daily
11am-9pm; winter daily 11am-7pm. Closed Jan.
Run of the Mill Tavern AMERICAN This friendly restaurant sits 3 blocks
inland, across from Town Brook Park. You won't mind not having a water view—the
food is tasty and reasonably priced, and the comfortable post-and-beam tavern is a
popular hangout. The unconventional clam chowder, made with red potatoes, is fan-
tastic. Other appetizers include nachos, potato skins, buffalo wings, and mushrooms.
Entrees are well-executed versions of familiar meat, chicken, and fish dishes, plus
burgers, fresh seafood (fried, broiled, or baked), and sandwiches (at lunch). On some
Saturday nights, there's live Irish music.
6 Spring Lane, off Summer St. & 508/830-1262. Reservations accepted only for parties of 6 or more. Main courses
$8-$19; children's menu $4-$6. AE, DC, DISC, MC, V. Sun-Thurs 11:30am-9:30pm, Fri-Sat 11:30am-10pm (lunch
menu until 4pm). Bar closes at 1am.
